Despite an appeal by the City of Fortuna earlier this month the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors greenlit an indoor cannabis facility just outside city limits on Drake Hill Road.

Fortuna had expressed concerns over things like the potential smells and traffic associated with the planned facility. The supes seemed to agree four-to-one however the facility would handle those concerns well with mitigation efforts like odor scrubbing and well-timed travel schedules.

“We want to be good neighbors, said Humboldt Boutique Gardens President Ian Herndon. “The community is watching and we’ll be taking the utmost care. We want to prove to people that a facility like ours can actually have a very positive impact.”

Fortuna has been looking at adding the area in question to their city limits which theoretically could complicate things for the facility. Annexation however could be a long process with a lot of hurdles.

Fortuna Mayor Sue Long and Interim City Manager Merritt Perry did not respond to requests for comment.
